8 Steps Needed to Begin ABA Services

Beginning ABA services can be tedious and stressful for families. As families are preparing for the process of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy, this blog helps give a brief overview of what beginning ABA services generally entail.

Step 1: Have your diagnostic paperwork available and ready.

When beginning ABA services, a common first step is providing a copy of diagnostic paperwork to the center you are considering for services. You may keep a print copy of this on hand or have an electronic copy from your doctor’s office.

Step 2: Have your insurance policy information on hand and ready.

We know for a fact that insurance can be confusing! Having a copy of your insurance card handy allows for the center to input information correctly from the start.

Step 3: Understand what your insurance benefits are.

We suggest having a good understanding of what your insurance benefits include. However, we understand this is an overwhelming topic for a lot of parents! You are not alone. If you are unsure of your benefits, our team is always happy to help.

Step 4: Submitting the authorization request to insurance.

After completing steps 1-3, if your insurance verification indicates that ABA is a covered service under your plan, we will submit an authorization request to your insurance for an assessment.

Step 5: Set an assessment date.

Following approval from the insurance company, we will contact you to set an assessment date that is convenient for your family’s schedule.

On the date of the assessment, we will observe the skill sets that your child currently has. We will also observe what needs further development. Following the assessment, a meeting with your family to discuss your concerns and desires will take place. This entire process may last up to three hours.

After completion of the assessment, we will write an assessment report that contains your child’s skill set information, recommended skills to develop, and the recommended amount of ABA service hours needed to accomplish these goals.

Step 6: Discuss assessment report and submit to insurance for approval.

We take time to go over each part of the assessment report, and we will discuss each recommendation with you. Then, we will send the assessment report directly to your insurance for review and approval.

Step 7: Get insurance approval.

The time that it takes to get insurance approval can vary. At Bridges Autism Therapies, our goal is to always be transparent with you as we complete each step to begin ABA services. We want your child to get insurance approval just as much as you do!

Step 8: Set a start date and schedule services!

After the insurance approval comes through, we will contact you to set a starting date and schedule for services. At this point, we hope that your family will know our team by name and feel comfortable at Bridges Autism Therapies.
